Following a recent study by the University of Utah on Different methods of Hydroseeding the conclusions are that even under the best growing and watering conditions only 60% of seeds ever germinate

Another finding is that the addition of Tackifier in to the hydroseeding slurry dramatically improves the water retention and the seed germination rates.

In the Tests it was found that hydroseeding mulches have recent contain Cellelose material perform signoificantly worse than mulches containing wood fibre and those containing cotton waste performed the worst of all with less than 10% of the seed germinating.

This is all well known to us at GoRoots because we have for a long time aplied seed at double the recommended rate we only use Wood fibre mulches and allways use a tackifier this helps us to get the best possible results in all conditions.
